Union Flags/Union Jacks
The Union flag is the flag of the United Kingdom, and is
commonly refered to as the Union Jack, but it should really
just be called the Union Jack when flown from a ship.
The flag is a combination of three saints flags: those of
St. George of England, St. Andrew of Scotland and St. Patrick
of Ireland.
The original flag from 1606 consisted of the crosses of St.
George and St. Andrew. St. Patrick's cross was added to the
design in 1801 after the Act of Union of Ireland with England
(and Wales) and Scotland.
Wales is not represented as a separate country on the Union
flag, as it was united with England at the time of the first
Union flag in 1606.
